Gamification
Games are one of the first forms of learning we encounter as children. Young children are encouraged to play and, through these games, learn about the world around and basic functions of society.
As we grow older, our education tends to shift away from games as a medium for teaching and learning. However, the use of gaming in a context beyond entertainment, or Gamification, can be highly effective when used to engage and motivate players to cooperate and solve complex problems.

ENHANCES is designing a game that takes on the challenge of coastal flooding in Suriname. The complexity of the situation must consider an elaborate system of drivers and impacts in both the environmental and social realms, and moulds these systems into gameplay mechanics that parallel the systems’ functions. This game is designed to be played by key stakeholders in Suriname, with the goal of facilitating cooperation, understanding each-other’s perspectives, and ultimately building consensus on the knowledge around coastal flood mitigation.
