Abstract:
The carbon cycle and climate change are tightly linked through feedbacks that regulate Earth’s stability, yet quantifying the spatiotemporal variability of carbon source–sink pathways and their contributions to the global budget remains a major challenge. This talk focuses on tropical shelf systems as vulnerable environments and critical carbon reservoirs, using terrestrial biomarkers and isotopes to trace organic carbon from rivers to long-term burial. The findings underscore the essential role of marginal seas in sustaining blue carbon storage and highlight their significance for climate regulation and sustainable coastal management under increasing human pressures.
